Adding and editing consultant episodes
You can add, edit, and delete consultant episodes from Patient Detail > Patient admin > Show pathways > Inpatient. You can do this during or after the patient's visit.
When a patient is admitted, they are under the care of a specific consultant. During a patient's visit, the patient might be transferred between consultants. The time period under each consultant is called a consultant episode. A patient's visit can contain one or more consultant episodes.
When a consultant episode is complete, clinical coders can complete coding for the consultant episode. Clinical coders can view consultant episodes that need coding from Back office > Clinical Coding.

Adding a consultant episode

From Inpatients > Patient List > double-click on a patient's name > Patient Detail, select Patient admin.

Select Show pathways > Inpatients.

Select next to a visit.

Select Add consultant episode.

Enter the date and time the consultant episode started.

Enter the date and time the consultant episode ended.

Select the consultant caring for the patient during that time.

Select the specialty of the consultant.

Optional: if the patient is under the care of more than one consultant:

From Shared Care Consultant, select a consultant that is also caring for the patient.
To remove the consultant, mouseover Shared Care Consultant, select ▼ > Clear.

From Shared Care Specialty (for consultant), select the specialty of that consultant.
To remove the specialty, mouseover Shared Care Specialty (for consultant), select ▼ > Clear.
The patient banner displays +1 under Consultant / Specialty. Mouseover +1 to view the consultant and specialty.

Select Insert.
Changing a consultant episode

From Inpatients > Patient List > double-click on a patient's name > Patient Detail, select Patient admin.

Select Show pathways > Inpatients.

Select next to a visit.

Select the consultant episode you want to change.

Select Change consultant episode.

Enter the date and time the consultant episode started.

Enter the date and time the consultant episode ended.

Select the consultant caring for the patient during that time.

Select the specialty of the consultant.

Optional: if the patient is under the care of more than one consultant:

From Shared Care Consultant, select a consultant that is also caring for the patient.
To remove the consultant, mouseover Shared Care Consultant, select ▼ > Clear.

From Shared Care Specialty (for consultant), select the specialty of that consultant.
To remove the specialty, mouseover Shared Care Specialty (for consultant), select ▼ > Clear.

Deleting a consultant episode

From Inpatients > Patient List > double-click on a patient's name > Patient Detail, select Patient admin.

Select Show pathways > Inpatients.

Select next to a visit.

Select the consultant episode you want to delete.

Select Delete consultant episode.

Enter a reason.

Select Delete consultant episode.
